A Way in the Wilderness

As children of God, although we have been rescued from sin, we will all struggle with ‘wilderness experiences' in our lives: places where because of our sin, the sins against us and the brokenness of this world we feel like we are wandering in a dry and thirsty place. We can understand that God leads us here but we wrestle with His plan, our own sinful nature and the many trials, tests, and temptations we face. It is a place of struggle, of suffering, and what we can feel is failure. We wonder if we will make it through. BUT GOD! Our gracious God does not leave us alone but meets us as our Wonderful Counsellor in the midst of our wanderings. He comes to us as Father, Son, and Spirit to rescue, redeem, and walk with us so that we might walk with Him in faithful response to His incomparable mercy.

Isaiah 43:19

Kristen Kottelenberg-Alkema

Kristen was raised in Ontario but as a pastor’s wife she has had the privilege of living and serving in British Columbia and Australia as well. She now lives in Smithers BC and is mom to four growing children.  A desire to connect counselling to the Bible led her to study psychology for her undergraduate and then God’s word at seminary, initially at CRTS.  Being a mom and pastor’s wife put that path on hold for a while but recently she was able to complete her Masters of Arts in Counselling at Westminster Theological Seminary. Currently she is practicing as a biblical counsellor and has a particular interest in helping those who have experienced abuse and trauma. She is continually amazed by how compassionately God tends to our wounds and how gentle and gracious He is in relentlessly pursuing us with His love in Jesus Christ, His Son. She loves (and misses) the ocean, delights in hiking mountains in the company of friends, loves to float on lakes, and thinks that laughing together is one of God’s great gifts.
